If you think back to your own childhood, there are a few moments that stand out in your memories. Certain golden days where life was magical and perfect.
A holiday where everything sparkled with light. A birthday party that was so much fun, your friends didn’t stop talking about it for years. Even just a day shopping with your mom and going out for ice cream afterward.
Nobody’s life is perfect. We all have hard times we have to go through, and we hold on until we can make it back to the good, but if we’re lucky, we have plenty of those shiny memories from our childhood that make us smile.
As parents, we try to give our children those special moments. Every once in a while, we make a special effort to go above and beyond to ensure that our children have these memories.
And that brings us to this: If your little one likes unicorns, have I got a party for you!
1. Decorations
Hello, balloon garland! If your child is eight or older, a huge, glitzy balloon garland gives you a ton of bang for your buck. This one here has a variety of colors and finishes, including metallic blue. If you spring for one splashy, larger decoration, then all you really need besides this is a unicorn-centric cake.
The garland is also a perfect backdrop for pictures. Don’t let the party end without getting a number of pictures with all the guests.
However, if this party is for younger children–under the age of eight–then nix the balloons. They’re a strangling hazard. Kids like to put them into their mouth and the results can be fatal. So please, no balloons until your kids outgrow the I-must-put-everything-in-my-mouth stage.
But if you’re throwing a sleepover for children under eight, you might want to reconsider. I commend you for your bravery, but no.
Seriously, no. Unless their parents come with them.
There’s a lot of tutorials out there for a unicorn cake. This one claims to be easy, so check it out. You may be a total Martha Stewart, but unless I’ve made something a few times, I want something to be as easy as possible if it’s for an event.
Another option is to order one from a bakery.
And check out these unicorn pancakes for the morning. Now THAT is easy. Thank heavens for sugar cones and whipped cream.
4. Unicorn Games
Figure out the best age-appropriate games: Here are some ideas
● Pin the Horn on the unicorn.
● Iridescent manicures/pedicures
● Horse, horse, unicorn (duck, duck, goose)
● Unicorn Pinata–make sure to have unicorn action figures come pouring out as well as candy. This bucket of unicorns and other fairytale creatures comes with a playland. Partygoers can all play together after the pinata.
5. Dress and Favors
For the girl of the hour, check out these little girl’s dresses from Presley Couture, especially these unicorn ones.
If the party is small, as in a party of two or three, the prices are reasonable enough you might want to consider buying one of these handmade dresses for the others, too.
If not, here are some unicorn squishies!
It’s always a good idea to have a backup plan. If the games go too quickly and you have some bored kids on your hands, have a couple of movies ready that are super popular and pop some popcorn.
Have a fabulous time!
