Q:

What are some healthy snack options for my child that are high in protein?

Hi everyone,

My child is a picky eater and I struggle to find healthy snack options for him. He doesn't like fruits or vegetables, and often prefers carb-heavy snacks like crackers and chips. I'm concerned that he's not getting enough protein in his diet, and I'm looking for some snack ideas that are both healthy and high in protein.

Do you have any suggestions? I'm open to anything, including homemade snacks or store-bought options. Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello,

I completely understand your concern about finding healthy snacks for a picky eater with a high protein requirement. My son is exactly the same. He doesn't enjoy anything green or anything that's been sliced before it reaches the snack plate. Hence, I've researched and found a few great snacks that work, which I thought I'd share.

One snack he loves are nut butter energy balls. They are made mainly with nuts, oats and other healthy ingredients, packed with protein and have a sweet taste from the natural sweeteners used like honey and dates. They fit perfectly in a lunch box or are great for an afternoon snack.

Another snack my son loves is beef or turkey meatballs that are made using lean meat. 3-4 meatballs offer them a good serving of protein, and the fact that they can be made ahead and refrigerated can be very handy. You could also serve meatballs on top of a slice of whole-wheat bread to add more nutrients to their diet.

Lastly, I make smoothies as a snack for my son, with nut milk, peanut butter, and a scoop of protein powder. He enjoys the taste and I can be sure he's getting the required intake of protein in his diet.

I hope these suggestions work for you and you can add them to your child's snack routine.

Hey all,

I know firsthand how hard it can be to find high protein healthy snacks for picky eaters. My niece is a picky eater and getting her to eat something healthy can sometimes feel like a herculean task. Fortunately, I've experimented with some snacks that have worked perfectly for her, and I'd like to share them with you.

Firstly, I suggest pre-prepared hummus cups or hummus and pretzel snack packs. Hummus is high in protein and fiber, and when combined with pretzels, it makes for a delicious and filling snack that's convenient and easily packable.

Another great snack that my niece loves is apple slices with almond butter. Apples are a healthy fruit option, and when combined with almond butter, they make for a snack packed with protein, fiber, and healthy fats.

Lastly, turkey and cheese roll-ups make for a great snack that's high in protein and low in carbs. Roll up a slice of turkey or ham with a slice of low-fat cheese. Sneak in a leaf of lettuce or spinach for added vitamins and minerals.

I hope these snack ideas help you in finding high protein healthy snacks that your picky eaters will enjoy. Remember, giving your child some control over what they eat and not forcing food on children can positively impact their eating habits.

Hi everyone,

I completely relate to the struggle of finding healthy snacks that are high in protein for picky eaters. My child is very particular when it comes to food and hardly ever likes anything that is healthy. However, I have found some high protein healthy snacks that she really enjoys, and I'd like to share them with you.

One of the snacks that I like to give her is a peanut butter banana sandwich. I slice a banana, slather some peanut butter on a slice of whole wheat bread and place the banana slices on top of it. I then top the banana with another slice of bread to complete the sandwich. This snack is a great source of protein and adds healthy nutrients as well.

Another snack that she really enjoys is a protein smoothie made with chocolate protein powder. I mix a scoop of protein powder with some almond milk, a banana, and a handful of spinach, which gives it a nice creamy texture and adds essential vitamins to her diet.

I also recommend roasted chickpeas which is my daughter's favorite snack. I prepare them by rinsing and draining a can of chickpeas and then seasoning them with a mix of salt, paprika, and cumin. Roast at 400 Fahrenheit for 20 minutes or until crispy. This snack is not only high in protein but full of fiber and minerals that are essential for your child's growth.

I hope these high protein options and recipe ideas work for you, and your little one can enjoy snacking in a healthy manner.

Hi there,

As a parent myself, I completely understand the struggle of finding healthy snack options for picky eaters. With that said, my son is also a picky eater, and I've found a few high protein snacks he loves.

One snack that always works is chicken bites. Chicken is high in protein and when cooked correctly with baking or air frying, it can be a healthy snack option. You could serve it with a side of hummus or tzatziki sauce for an added flavor.

Next up, I've started incorporating protein bars into my son's diet. He loves the chocolate flavors and with the right protein bar the carb level is manageable for healthy snacking. I usually offer it to him after his sports or for a quick snack when he's hungry before dinner.

Lastly, cottage cheese mixed with fruit can be a healthy and high protein snack option. Cottage cheese is great as it's high in protein and when mixed with fresh fruit like berries, it can be very satisfying.

I hope these suggestions help you in finding healthy snack options for your child. Remember, slow and steady wins the race in getting kids to eat healthy. So, don't give up!

Hello,

As a parent of two picky eaters, I know how tough it can be to find healthy snacks that they'll actually enjoy eating. However, there are some high protein snacks that my kids love, and I'm happy to share them!

Firstly, sliced deli meat like turkey, chicken, or ham is a great high protein snack option that my kids enjoy. It's easy to pack and can be eaten on its own or wrapped around a piece of cheese or a veggie like a cucumber or carrot.

Secondly, edamame is a fun snack that's high in protein and is perfect for kids. Roast it in the oven with a sprinkle of sea salt or boil in a pot of water for a few minutes until tender. They're a great option for kids who enjoy snacking on finger food.

Lastly, mini frittatas are my go-to snack option for my kids. I usually make them with eggs, veggies, and cheese and pack them in their lunch box or as an after-school snack. They're high in protein and packed with nutrition.

I hope these high protein snack options work for your picky eater and add to your arsenal of healthy snacking ideas. Remember, keep trying and don't give up.

Hey there,

I know how challenging it can be to find healthy snacks for picky eaters who require a protein-packed diet. My daughter, for instance, is a fan of cheesy snacks and dislikes anything that looks healthy. Nevertheless, I've found a few healthy snack options that are high in protein.

First, you could try peanut butter made from whole nuts on whole-grain crackers. Peanut butter is high in protein and good fats are present in nuts. Whole-grain crackers are rich in fiber and can improve digestion.

The next healthy snack option my daughter enjoys is cheese. Cheese is a great source of protein and is very satisfying. The cheese sticks or the individually wrapped cheese cubes are easy to pack and make for a great snack that can be eaten on the go.

Lastly, I also make my own trail mix consisting of unsalted nuts, raisins, and dark chocolate chips. Nuts are packed with protein and the dark chocolate chips have antioxidants which are beneficial to one's health.

I hope these suggestions prove helpful to you in keeping your child healthy!

Hi there,

I completely understand your struggle in finding healthy and protein-rich snacks for your child. My son is also a picky eater who refuses to eat anything that's not junk food. However, I recently found a few snacks that he loves and are high in protein.

My first suggestion is hard-boiled eggs. They are an excellent source of protein and I usually pack a few in his lunch box. Another snack that he loves is Greek yogurt with berries. It's high in protein and calcium, and the fruit adds natural sweetness that he enjoys.

If your child likes meat, you could try turkey or beef jerky as a snack. They are high in protein and easy to pack for on-the-go snacking. My son also enjoys roasted chickpeas. They are a crunchy and savory snack that's also high in protein.

I hope these suggestions help you find some healthy and protein-rich snacks that your child enjoys!
