Q:

Are there any specific authors or series that are great for babies?

Hi everyone,

My husband and I are expecting our first child soon and we are both really excited to introduce our little one to the world of books. We want to start reading to our baby from a very young age, but we are not sure which authors or series are particularly great for babies.

We are looking for books that are engaging, visually stimulating, and easy to understand. We want to expose our baby to different types of stories, so any recommendations on board books, picture books, or even interactive books would be much appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi, congratulations on your upcoming arrival! Reading to babies is such a wonderful way to bond with them and stimulate their development.

When my son was a baby, we loved the "Indestructibles" series by Amy Pixton. These books are made of a durable, chew-proof material and can be safely put in a baby's mouth. The illustrations are bright, colorful and engaging, and the stories are simple and easy to follow.

Another great series for babies is the "That's Not My..." collection by Usborne Books. These board books feature different textures for babies to touch and feel, which can help develop their sensory skills. They also have bold and simple illustrations, perfect for capturing a baby's attention.

Lastly, I would recommend checking out any books by the author Sandra Boynton. Her books are hilarious and catchy with fun rhymes and silly characters that my son absolutely loved.

I hope this helps and happy reading!

Hey there! Congrats on becoming a parent soon. Reading is one of the best gifts that you can give your baby. My personal favorite author for babies is Eric Carle. His books are visually stunning and colorful, grab a baby's attention easily. His classic "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" is a must-have, but personally, I love "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" The book is a repetitive and colorful journey through different animals, making it easy for babies to engage with the story.

As you mentioned, board books are best for babies, and one of my other favorites in this format is "Little Blue Truck" by Alice Schertle. The illustrations in this series are vibrant, with simple and fun stories that your baby will love.

Another author I would recommend for babies is Mem Fox. Her book "Time for Bed" is perfect for bedtimes and features adorable animal characters and simple rhymes that make for a soothing read before sleep time.

Hope this helps you get started on building your baby's library! Happy reading!

Congratulations on your upcoming arrival! Reading to your baby can promote language development, enhance vocabulary, and stimulate brain development.

One of my favorite authors for babies is Eric Hill, specifically his book "Where's Spot". It's an interactive lift-the-flap book with simple, colorful illustrations and a delightful story that engages a baby's attention and imagination.

Another series that I love is the "Karen Katz's Lift-the-Flap Books". These books have interactive and engaging illustrations with easy-to-understand stories that are perfect for young babies. The series includes books on different topics such as counting, peekaboo, and bedtime.

Finally, the "Alphaprints" series by Roger Priddy is an excellent choice for babies. These books feature finger and thumb print pictures with raised embossed features that babies can touch and feel, promoting sensory skills. The illustrations are colorful and engaging, and the books teach basic concepts such as colors, numbers, and shapes.

I hope you found these recommendations helpful. Reading with your baby is a wonderful way to bond with them and stimulate their growing minds.

Hi there! Reading to your baby is such a beautiful thing to do, and I'm excited for you to embark on this wonderful journey.

One series that I have found great for babies is the "Bright Baby" collection by Roger Priddy. These board books are full of bright, colorful and detailed illustrations of various objects, animals, and concepts, making them highly engaging and stimulating to babies' development.

Another series that my baby and I have enjoyed is the "Llama Llama" collection by Anna Dewdney. These books are perfect for toddlers but also great for babies as the stories are simple and repetitive, making them easy for little minds to understand. They also have engaging illustrations that can captivate a baby's attention.

Lastly, I recommend the "Global Babies" book by The Global Fund for Children. This board book has beautiful photographs of babies from different cultures around the world, exposing babies to diversity from an early age while teaching them about different customs and clothing.

These are just a few of my personal favorites – happy reading, and enjoy every moment spent reading to your little one.

Hi! First of all, congratulations on your upcoming arrival! Reading to babies from an early age is beneficial and can nurture their love of books and learning.

I would recommend the "Baby Touch and Feel" series from DK Publishing. These board books have a variety of interactive elements, including textures, flaps, and mirrors, which will keep your little one engaged and entertained. The images are bold, colorful, and easy for babies to focus on.

Another great series for babies is the "Hello, World!" collection by Jill McDonald. These board books introduce babies to different concepts like animals, vehicles, and colors using simple words and graphics. They're perfect for helping babies develop their early language skills.

Lastly, the "Good Night, I Love You" book by Caroline Jayne Church is a sweet bedtime story that is perfect for soothing little ones to sleep. The illustrations are soft and calming, and the simple text is easy to follow.

Happy reading and all the best!

Hello! Congratulations on your upcoming little one. Reading to babies is an excellent way to introduce them to the world, and there are a lot of great options out there.

One of my favorite authors for babies is Sandra Boynton. Her books are silly, easy to follow, and feature fun illustrations. They're perfect for engaging young readers and can be quite entertaining for adults too. "The Going to Bed Book" is a popular one and great for winding down bedtime routines.

Another author I suggest checking out is Nancy Tillman. Her books are beautiful, with dreamy illustrations and meaningful messages. "On the Night You Were Born" and "Wherever You Are: My Love Will Find You" are two of my favorites.

Finally, "Peek-a-Who?" by Nina Laden is an excellent book for babies between 6-12 months old. The text is simple and repetitive, with engaging images that capture a baby's attention. The book also helps teach object permanence, as the faces are revealed behind flaps, making it a great developmental tool as well.

I hope you enjoy these recommendations and happy reading!

Hello and congratulations on your soon-to-be new addition! Reading with babies is a great way to introduce them to the world. I have a few recommendations from my personal experience.

The "TouchThinkLearn" series by Xavier Deneux is excellent for babies. These board books have cut-out shapes that babies can touch and explore, making them fascinating for younger readers. I found it useful for learning new words with my baby, as the books teach concepts through sensory exploration.

Another series that I would suggest is "BabyLit" by Jennifer Adams. These board books are inspired by classic literature tales, such as "Pride and Prejudice" or "Alice in Wonderland," introducing babies to early concepts and literary classics from a young age.

Finally, I highly recommend "Where Is the Green Sheep?" by Mem Fox. This book has vibrant and amusing illustrations, a catchy rhyming text, and simple sentences, making the book perfect for young children. I read it to my baby all the time, and it never fails to delight him.

Happy reading to you and your little one!
